Keeping up with the Mommy Take Back Routine.

A commonly asked question is “how to continue with your routine”.

I make sure there are 2 things I do every day. For me it’s sweep the floor and my daily at home circuit routine between 10-20 minutes.

Then hopefully I have time for do my upper/lower/ab/butt workout. Different workouts for different days or I get bored and find an excuse not to do it.

I also make a daily to do list and on this list I have a minimum of 6 things that have to get done. I do my best to make these 6 things attainable with the idea that I will be very busy doing mom stuff (nursing, teething, coddling, etc.)

And Fridays I am required to put on jeans and make up even if I’m not going anywhere.

Lastly, everything in moderation.

In Praise Of Decay (and against plastic)

Malcolm Guite

In pale gold leaf-fall losing shape and edge In pale gold leaf-fall losing shape and edge

I walk each morning in some woodland near my home and especially savour in this late autumn, early winter season, the damp carpet of fallen leaves, now decaying and forming  rich mulch that will feed the soil for future growth. Even in their decay, losing edge and shape, melding and blending together there is in this carpet of leaves, a kind of grace and beauty. The other morning though, these meditations were interrupted by a sudden intrusion. There amongst the gold and mottled leaf mould, like some harsh alien excrescence, was a discarded plastic bag. It was totally out of place and told its own tale of indifference and carelessness; not just the carelessness of the person that dropped it, but the carelessness of the culture that produced it. The trees shed their leaves, and in that fall and letting go  achieve…

It’s not about you…

Because I'm Fabulous

I remember being pregnant with my children, feeling as their gentle flutters progressed into full belly flops on my bladder and painful karate kicks against the backs of my ribs. Back then I had no clue what my children would be like; they were more like ideas than real people. I’d sit in my rocking chair with my hands clasped gently over my stomach and wonder who they’d be. Dreaming of children who loved singing as much as me; envisioning singing rounds, our voices weaving together in harmony.

Then they were born. Short, chubby, bald people who looked a lot more like Winston Churchill than either their Dad or myself. People that screamed randomly, pooped on themselves, and considered “gah” to be an entire conversation. I still had no idea what they were like except loud, messy, and highly uncoordinated. They slowly evolved into their own people. Emma was colicky and had a desperate need to be…

Enjoy Nap Time

My son Thor is 5.5 months old and has had a terrible time sleeping this past three days. He has been up every hour at night and refusing naps. So it’s safe to say that I haven’t slept at all.

He is now down for his afternoon nap and I should also try to throw in a power nap; but, I have a laundry list of things I need to do. I need to fold laundry, clean the bathrooms, clean the floors, shower, and eat. If I try to sleep I’m just going to let my mind race about what I need to do.

It’s about time I enjoy nap time. To increase my engery levels I will do a 7 minute cricut workout and take a much deserved shower.

The end result being that I have more energy when Thor wakes up to do fun baby and mommy stuff like sensory games while being able to smash my to-do list. With my to-do list finished and a happy little boy we will both sleep soundly tonight. Hopefully.
